Hello my friends!
I don’t really want to even talk about the VIRUS but I will give you some insight on how it is affecting me.
For me (at this point in time) shutting down the gym was the only correct decision. We have SO many children, adults and older adults coming through our doors on a daily basis. We are all over the floors, the equipment, the chairs, etc. The gym has been thoroughly cleaned and then closed. Let those bugs be destroyed. We followed the lead of Keystone schools, even a few days before gyms were told to shut down.
Personally, I have found this to be just what I needed most. Maybe you need this, too. Pushing myself back to class after the losses I have recently suffered was what I needed (had) to do, but it has been so hard on me. I can hold myself together to get through a few classes and then I pretty much cry all the way home–but, hey, it’s a short drive and a girl needs to grieve. I have always struggled that with a loss, the whole world continues moving, while my world has stopped. I am thankful that for the time being, the world has somewhat stopped. I am not telling you this for sympathy votes. I know you have all been sympathetic and so, very, very caring and loving. Thank you. I am telling you this to let you know that in my world I see this as the break I need. I am not freaking out because our gym income has dropped to zero. I am not freaking out that I can’t teach my corporate class. I am not freaking out that we may lose the customers we have worked so hard to service. I am grateful for the time. Time to reflect. Time to meditate. Time to be creative. Time to read. Time to play with the dogs. Time to play in the kitchen and cook. My kids came to visit and we had time to hang out.
Like you, I still need to move and breathe, do yoga and exercise. I have made a couple of videos as gifts to you…YOU HAVE NO IDEA what a big deal it is for me to have made these videos. I had to learn new skills. I had to trust in the process. I had to figure out technological things.
My intention for you is that you stay safe, that you continue to move and breathe, that you can afford to be out of work, if that is the case for you. I hope that you can use this break from the world to reconnect with yourselves, your kids, your significant others and nature (go for a walk). I am trusting in the process and I look forward to reopening the gym and seeing you all in class. If you are in a position where you are not getting a break from work or the world, THANK YOU for doing what you have to do. Be sure to take some time for yourself. Simple yoga breathing can do wonders! Mindfully breathe, maybe even while you drive. Deep breath in, long breath out! This pattern of mindful breathing can take our central nervous system from a state of Fight and Flight to one of Rest and Restore.
In the meantime, here are the links to the videos. As in all physical practices, be sure only do what you can. Don’t do anything if you experience pain or feel extreme discomfort. Be gentle with yourselves, especially if you haven’t practiced or worked out in a while. These videos are not by any means professional products…you are getting me…honest, raw and uncensored…no editing…nothing fancy…just like in class! Do them with an open mind, expecting nothing and noticing what you experience. If you do the Kick Boxing video, it can be nice on the body to do the Gentle Yoga video right after. Hopefully I can add a Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep meditation) and Breathing Meditation next!
