To all the moms out there — including our grandmothers, aunts, nieces, Godmothers and even our lady friends — Happy Mother’s Day. Remember, you don’t have to be a “mom” in order to be honored on this special day. Nearly every woman I know serves as a “mom” in some capacity – you don’t have to have children to be a mom. It’s all about how you treat others. A dear friend of mine, her great-aunt never married, but she constantly took care of her nieces and nephews as they grew up – and then, eventually, her great-nieces and great-nephews. She was at every single family function until she could no longer attend. That is what being a “mom” is all about.
And, given our current “situation” of keeping safe, it’s also important to give proper credit to Mother Nature, because let me tell you, the other day, my sisters and I “social distanced” ourselves at the Hinckley Reservation and boy, did we see all of Mother Nature in her spring-time glory. The birds were chirping, the trees were budding, the waterfalls were flowing. It was magnificent; and very needed.
In ending I leave you with this … if you cannot see your mom, or mother-figure, this weekend due to a variety of reasons, make the time to at least tell her how much she means or meant to you (yes, you can talk to your mom even if she is in a better place, I do it all the time).
Love to you all,
Jeannette
