“Be thankful for what you have. Be thankful for what you DON’T have.”
At first, that phrase sounds a little off.
We are all supposed to be thankful for what we ACTUALLY have in our lives.
For many, that means good health, a steady job and a roof over our head.
To have a place to gather where we can safely practice yoga together.
For family and friends, no matter how near or far.
And, the ability to live freely and be who we/I want to be.
But what about being thankful for what we DON’T have? What does that really mean?
To me it means being thankful that I don’t have to live my life in fear of being attacked by terrorists or others as I leave my house to go to the grocery store for milk.
It means not having to live in fear of being rejected because I don’t share the same views as others.
To be thankful for what I DON’T have in terms of a terminal illness or disease. To know that I am lucky enough to not have medical bills piling up.
Every day, we should be thankful for what we do have; AND be thankful for what we DON’T have … because you never know when life can change at the drop of a hat.
